Noah….. where did you park the boat!

Bit slack on the blogging front at the moment. ….
Mainly because it’s all quiet up here in the Republic hq

Well until today

Around 3pm the skies started to go dark to the west. .. It looked as though the peoples Republic of Cumbria was brewing up a nasty spell to throw “Ower yon fence” and aye! A wasn’t wrang..

Thunder, lightning, hail, fire, brimstone. .oops sorry getting a bit carried away. .

Although. . The lightning and thunder was rather good to watch..until the rain hit.

For around 2 possibly 3 hours the rain came down in bowser fulls not just bucket fulls.
Now this area of West northumbria has what I’d like to say is a fantastic recreational forest…. hmmmm well. ..It is if you visit kielder water.
That’s kept nice for the tourists perspective …
Here deeper into the interior is a working forest and over the past four a or five years has been denuded of the mature trees.
Now this has had a big impact on climate (local) and also the ability to hold its water.. by way of ..
The old trees retained a lot of moisture and the release of water was a more gradual affair..

Now what we see is flash floodsย  and dangerous Ford crossing.
Today must have been one of the worst for a long time. . I have seen water I places not seen before..the upper warks burn broke it’s banks and missed out its usual meandering course..
Not the best of situations when you need to be at work for 7pm.

No way would I attempt to put speedy into such peril.

After the intrepid timber man got through, the water level rise by another foot..

The FC say it’s not our problem or our doing….. yeah right! Wake up and smell the coffee before there’s a tragedy

  1. Well I am just back from 2 glorious weeks in Beadnell. We watch the tail end of that storm hit Bamburgh from the comfort of Seahouses, quietly sniggering at the thought of all those people stuck on the beach, only to be caught up in it 10 minutes later as we made a dash to vets at the other end of the village.

Great Holiday just wish I could find a way to move there permanetly.
