Monday came and went with not much of a bang but a whimper. We took ourselfs of to town, to organise building materials for delivery and to check on the progression of the made to order hardwood windows. Andy, the guy in charge of the joinery works advised us they should be ready for next monday and that he would ring me as soon as they had been finished. The supplies of block, sand, cement, timber etc had been organised for Friday as the standard size pattern 10 door would not be in untill then. That done it was off to the metro centre to find a dress!! Not for me i hasten to add, but for better half, as we are off to the races in May and thats always a good excuse to get togged up. As it happened the place was quite
And no outfit was found, although we did manage a rather nice lunch at JD Wetherspoons while watching the unwashed masses go about there shopping. There is something strangely theraputic about people watching. I could sit all day just observing folk as they go about there daily doings. I see myself as the architypal old italian guy sitting on a bench in the shade with either a nice cup of coffee or a long beer just musing over life as it passes by.
Anyway, back to reality, and a phone call from jamie RSNE who said, “what time do you want to set the traps” 3 i said but i’l call when i got home. What he and i are doing is declareing war on the grey intruder by setting some squirrel traps at the check point into the republic
At present they are just baited to check for the scurge on the republics reds so there is no need to inspect them daily.
Tuesday we took ourselfs of to the coast for a wee gander. Not been over to the seaside for ages, found a great spot and set of on a little jaunt down the 64 mile coastal path of our fair republics shore line. The mooch took us to Crasta where we sampled a pint at the jolly fishermans bar and bought kippers across the street at Robsons smokery. Onwards we checked out Beadnel (it was shut!) then on to Seahouses for a fine fish supper. On getting home better half, paige and myself crashed in front of the log burner for the night, must have been the sea air. Although paige managed to scrawl a few lines on her blog site!!!
Wednesday, firstly the boss went of for a grocery shop while i got on with some odd jobs including stripping the water tables and re routing the rainwater downcomer before stripping the slate roof. On her return she cooked the kippers bought on tuesday, they where tasty but as always they keep repeating themselves for hours after. We also took a hike to check for squirrel action and none was found although the lichened hawthorn bush is bursting into leaf
Once back an it was off with the slates, but trying to be gentle as to save as many as possible to put back on. I think i only smashed ten all told, result.
We also took delivery of the building materials two days early, another result, things are progressing, just hope the builder turns up on friday.
Thursday was supossed to be a day off, as we had arranged to go on a photography course, but the weather has put the kybosh on that, so instead we have had a bit of a duvet day. But i can inform you that after a bit of trial and error, the camera trap has yielded some shots of our local badgers. When i get a little more time on the laptop, thats if i can prise it out of the bosses hands and out of paiges paws i may get some of the beach photos and wildlife pics onto flikr, thats it for now as this touch screen keyboard seems to be getting smaller and the typo’s getting bigger. TTFN.
